Recover from Religious Trauma & Depression
Depression and religious trauma can be intertwined. This is because when you grow up with strict religious expectations, you can struggle to feel “good enough,” and worry you are not meeting the religious expectations that are placed on you by family, or by God.
You might feel like you do not know what your identity is outside of religion. Even feeling this way, and wanting to explore parts of you other than your faith, can lead to feelings of guilt and shame. These emotions can contribute to depression.
In therapy, we’ll explore what might be at the root of your low mood — whether that’s grief, spiritual burnout, perfectionism, or unrealistic high expectations. I’ll help you identify thought and behavioural patterns that are keeping you stuck and support you in building small, meaningful steps toward connection, motivation, and healing.
