Faith-related Fear
Religious trauma and OCD can overlap. You may find yourself stuck in obsessive thoughts about morality, sin, or whether you’re “good enough” — even if you've left the faith that taught you those ideas. You might experience intrusive thoughts that are tied to religious rules, guilt, or fear of punishment. Intrusive thoughts might include “Did I sin?” or “Am I going to hell?”
These thoughts trigger anxiety, which leads to compulsive behaviours such as, praying, seeking reassurance, or going over past actions. These compulsions temporarily relieve the anxiety, but they also reinforce the fear, keeping you stuck in a cycle of doubt, guilt, and self-monitoring.
