Understanding OCD Beyond the Stereotypes
OCD is a term used a lot by social media, we often hear people say ‘I’m a bit OCD’. But what is OCD really? There are different types of OCD but one of the main principles that underlies this, is when people feel a strong sense of responsibility, either towards themselves, or others.
They develop a belief that they must do certain things, to prevent some sort of harm coming to themselves or others. There are such a range of behaviours that this covers, it would be impossible for me to write them all down, as they can be very individual but some of the more common ones might be repeatedly checking household appliances are turned off, returning to check you have locked the door, or even constantly messaging loved ones to make sure they are okay.
