— About Me

Hello, nice to meet you!

What can I help with?

My name is Aisha. I am a qualified and BABCP accredited CBT therapist in 2014, I offer virtual therapy.

I started After Faith following my own experience of leavingIslam. Being an ex-Muslim created a lot of challenges for me, and after taking yearsto heal from my own religious trauma and loss of faith, I realised there is not a lot ofsupport out there for people who are experiencing faith-related difficulties.

If you are wondering how therapy with me can help you, here are some of the faith-related issues I can help with:

  • People questioning their faith or undergoing deconstruction
  • Former believers recovering from high-control or fundamentalist groups
  • Individuals still practicing faith but carrying trauma from past religious environments
  • Anyone navigating guilt, fear, shame, or identity loss after leaving religion
  • I am LGBTQ+ friendly, and I have training to support people who areneurodivergent.

If you would like to find out if I am the right therapist for you, I offer a free, noobligation 15-minute call. All my sessions take place via Zoom or telephone.

Results I have helped create

Hear out what my clients say about me.
Having someone from a similar background meant that I didn't need to explain why my family were reacting the way they were. Having seen two therapists in the past who made suggestions that would not be possible for someone from my culture, seeing Aisha made a huge difference not only because she is South Asian. but because she has been through her own struggles with religion.
Client
Aisha helped me navigate some of the most difficult periods of my life, and I am thankful for her support. When I first started looking for a therapist, I noticed that there are hardly any licensed therapists who understand the cultural and religious issues that South Asians face. I tried with other therapists before, but they struggled to understand what I was really going through. Then I was referred to Aisha by someone who was going through something similar, and I've never looked back. Thank you so much, Aisha. You helped me a lot, and I am certain you will be able to help others there - there's definitely a lot of people out there who need your services.
Client
I have always thought about going to therapy but never did because I never felt that a non-south asian therapist could understand the unique context my issues were situated in and felt like I would just have to spend the entire time trying to explain my background and culture so naturally when I came across your profile, I was very interested. Specifically, your interest in loss of faith and family estrangement.

Benefits & Approach

Working together in therapy offers you:

  • A Safe, Non-Judgmental Sanctuary: A confidential space where you can openly discuss anything – the doubts, the fears, the anger, the relief – without fear of judgment or repercussion.

  • Expert Guidance Through Religious Trauma: Benefit from therapy grounded in understanding the specific dynamics of high-control groups, deconstruction, and the psychological impact of leaving faith.

  • Tools to Overcome Guilt & Shame: Learn practical techniques based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) to challenge unhelpful thought patterns and manage difficult emotions.

  • Rediscover Your Authentic Self: Explore your values, interests, and aspirations outside the confines of religious doctrine, fostering a stronger sense of self and increased self-esteem.

  • Understanding the “Why”: Gain insight into how past experiences and teachings shaped your current fears and anxieties, empowering you to break free from their hold.

  • Support from Lived Experience: As someone who has navigated their own journey of deconstructing the religion they were born into, I bring a layer of firsthand understanding to my professional expertise [Note: Phrase this according to client comfort level. It’s a powerful benefit but needs to be authentic.].

  • An Active, Collaborative Approach: This isn’t passive listening. We work together. I will listen deeply, offer insights, challenge gently when needed, and equip you with skills to become your own guide long after therapy ends. We focus on real work and tangible change, not quick fixes or wishful thinking.
